COME UP WEEKLY
Hey - welcome back to issue 2 of Come Up Weekly.
Last week, I introduced the niche newsletter model. This week we're going in a different direction - something that pays faster. Like, within weeks fast.
If you missed issue 1, you can read it here. [link to issue 1]
Let's get into it.
THE METHOD
How To Land Your First Paying Client Using Nothing But DMs and AI
Most people think getting a client requires a website, a portfolio, years of experience, and a perfect pitch. None of that is true for this model.
Here's the concept. Small businesses need customers. Most of them have no system for finding new ones consistently. You become the person who builds that system for them - using AI to do most of the work - and they pay you monthly to keep it running.
The service is called B2B lead gen. You find businesses whose customers are other businesses - commercial cleaners, staffing agencies, accountants, and HVAC companies. You build a list of their ideal prospects using a free tool called Apollo. You use AI to write personalized outreach emails to those prospects. Interested people book meetings directly on your client's calendar. Your client just shows up and closes the deal.
You charge $1,000-$2,500 a month per client. Three clients is about $3,000-$7,500 a month. And the whole thing is run mostly through DMs and AI - no phone calls required to get started.
The key insight most people miss: target boring industries. HVAC companies, commercial cleaning, pest control, and law firms. These businesses have real money, genuinely need more customers, and almost nobody is offering this to them professionally. That's your opening.
Takeaway: You don't need experience. You need a system and the confidence to offer it.
THE TOOL
Apollo - The Database That Finds Your Clients' Customers
Apollo is a database of 275 million people and 70 million companies. You filter by industry, location, job title, and company size and it spits out a list of real decision makers with real emails.
Free tier gets you 50 exports a month - enough to run your first campaign and land your first client before spending a dollar.
Search for it at apollo.io. Create a free account and just explore the filters. Type in any industry and city, and watch how many potential prospects come up. That's the list you'd be working from.
Takeaway: Your first client's future customers are already in Apollo. You just have to find them.
THE MOVE
This Week - Send 5 DMs To Local Business Owners
Pick one type of business in your city - commercial cleaning, landscaping companies that serve businesses, a local staffing agency, anything where the customers are other businesses.
Find 5 of them on Instagram, Facebook, or LinkedIn. Send each one a short message like this:
"Hey - I help [type of business] get more clients through outreach. I find businesses in your area that need your service and book meetings on your calendar. Would that be useful for you?"
That's it. No pitch deck, no website, no experience needed. Just a clear offer. Even one yes from those 5 messages puts you on the path to your first retainer.
Takeaway: The first client is always the hardest. Send the messages anyway.
THE NUMBER
$6,000 - What 3 Lead Gen Clients Look Like Per Month
Three small business clients at $2,000 a month each. That's $6,000 a month - $72,000 a year - from a service you can run in 10-15 hours a week once the systems are set up. No inventory, no shipping, no employees. Just AI, a laptop, and a few client relationships.
Most people your age won't believe this is real until they see it. The ones who try it find out pretty quickly that it is.
Takeaway: The math is simple. The execution is what separates people who read about it from people who do it.
REAL TALK
Real Talk
Week 1 update - here's where Come Up Weekly actually stands.
I launched on Monday, posted on Reddit, and got my first real subscriber the same day. I have no idea who they are or how they found it, but they chose to subscribe, which means the content is landing with at least one real person.
This week I'm focused on two things - posting on X every day and getting issue 2 out on Tuesday. No shortcuts, no buying followers, no spam. Just showing up consistently and letting the audience build naturally.
If you're reading this and you found me through Reddit or X - thank you for being here early. The ones who show up at the beginning always get the most value.
Subscriber count this week: 15
